As the name suggests, a very delicate soft pink, it is always somewhat milky rather than transparent. It varies in colour from off-white pink to a warm rose-pink colour. Pink is created by inclusion of manganese and sometimes titanium in the quartz rock. Found in Namibia and South Africa where it is used in jewellery and gemstone products, some specimens are asterated - showing star of light reflected in stone caused by impurities (see also: Colour Significance).

Early Chinese made carvings of the Goddess of Peace using rose quartz as it was said that her gentleness and wisdom was reflected in the colour. Used extensively today in the manufacture of necklaces, pendants and small sculptured ornaments. Colour is often imitated in glass, but air bubbles - usually clearly visible under a lens - easily prove that it is not genuine.

A member of the quartz family, it is one of the most important crystals used in healing. It is helpful in releasing excess fluids and impurities in the cells of the body and is also thought to be particularly beneficial to the heart and lungs when placed on the reflex or acupuncture/acupressure points for these organs.

Used to relieve burns and blisters caused by heat, it is good for the skin and in healing scar tissue. Used in the treatment of asthma, eyesight problems, migraine, fever, bruises and aching in bones. It is also used to ease fatigue, menstrual pains and tenderness. It is said to prevent wrinkles stimulated beautiful complex. Said to produce a restful, cooling energy that will restore calmness, balance and clarity to the emotions. Its gentle, soothing feminine energy is very good for expressing and balancing emotions, fears, phobias, and even general vulnerability. It helps clear stored anger, resentment, guilt, fear and jealousy, and it aids in the development of forgiveness, compassion, love, friendship and self-love. It teaches tolerance and caring and aids in emotional balance/support and unconditional love for others and ourselves. It is comforting, positive and responsive and heightens self-esteem. It can heal a broken heart and lessen feelings of inadequacy. While smoky quartz can help us face our own dark side, and deal with the own inner negativity -- working through problems using smoky quartz can often bring the clear solution.

It helps to attract positive, gentle energy into our lives (both people and objects). Masks cut from rose quartz were used to beautify the skin in Ancient Egypt. It is the birthstone of Taurus. Used on the Base or Crown or Solar plexus or Heart chakra.
